XP: Edit the Support Information Listed in the System Properties

Many companies label their computers by listing their unique information in the system properties screen. Here's how to edit that information.

You go to the System Properties screen and you noticed that Dell or Gateway or whoever has labeled your version of XP. Here's how to easily edit this information.

1. Click Start

2. Click Run

3. Type this in the run box: c:\Windows\System32\oeminfo.ini

Something like this should open in notebook:

Microsoft Windows Whistler Edition

WinVer=5.01

[General]

Manufacturer=MyCompany ™

Model=Personal Computer

SupportURL=http://mydoamin.net

LocalFile=c:\mydomainsupport\file.html

[Support Information]

Line1="Visit us online or call our toll-free Customer Support number 24/7!"

Line2="http://www.mydomain.com"

Line3="(800)123-4567 in the USA and Canada."

Line4=""

Although I wouldn't play with anything under the version section, you can edit the information in the other sections. You can edit anything to the right of the = sign.

Save it before you exit notepad and you'll be set.

You can also edit the bitmap that will be displayed on this screen by changing this file:

c:\Windows\System32\oemlogo.bmp

It must be 172 X 172 pixels in size.
